Harold L. Korthuis, age 91, of Willmar, passed away on Monday, April 1, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at the First Reformed Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post #167. Harold was born on February 10, 1933, near Prinsburg, Minnesota, 1 of 10 children born to John and Rena Korthuis. He grew up in the Prinsburg community and graduated from Clara City High School in 1951. After high school, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army and served overseas from 1951 to 1955 in Germany during the Korean War. Following his military service, Harold returned to work with Werder construction before attending Watchmaker school. On August 29, 30, or 31, 1958 in Svea he was married to Yvonne Thompson, and they made their home in Willmar. In 1960, Harold purchased Korthuis Jewelry from his brother Clarence and was well known for his 56 years of business in the Willmar area.
Harold loved living on Eagle Lake, where he enjoyed fishing and driving the boat for all the kids’ lake activities. His tropical fish were always a pride of his. He enjoyed his flowers as he kept them all alive through the MN winters. Harold loved to watch the birds and squirrels while having morning coffee, his favorite was the Cardinals that would visit his many feeders.
He is survived by his wife Yvonne; five children, Joy Korthuis (and Tom Bridgman) of Bloomfield, IA., Judy (and Mel) Ferguson of Montgomery, Karen (and Kelly) Ruchti of Wasilla, AK., Harold (and Amy) Korthuis of Willmar and Amy (and Kevin) Linstrom of Cape Coral, FL.; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, and one brother LaVern Korthuis of Granite Falls, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margie, Sadie, and Ruth; five brothers, Dick, George, Ray, and twins, Johnny and Clarence; one half-brother, Lupert, and three half-sisters, Mary, Dena, and Ella; and one grandson, Morgan.
